Why It Is Important to Lead a Healthy Lifestyle
Having a healthy lifestyle is every person wish. It encompasses making our life better and productive by what we eat, what we put in our mind and the activities that we engage in our everyday life.
Having a routine exercise is one of the ways in which we can maintain a healthy lifestyle. The exercise needs not be excessive but any exercise which will make the pulse rate to increase for just thirty minutes daily is enough. Some of the exercises include taking part in a fast walk, some jogging or aerobics for half an hour is appropriate.
Making sure that you sleep for six to eight hours per day is recommended since it is during moments of sleep that the body is able to rejuvenate and most cells are replaced during such moments. The body is able to rebuild the energy that was used during the day and one wakes up feeling re energized.
One of the most important things that help to maintain a healthy lifestyle is the diet that we take. Ensuring that the diet is complete in the three categories of food is important since all three are necessary for proper functioning of the body. This includes carbohydrates which should come from the complex type. Vitamins should be taken in larger quantities while proteins should not be consumed excessively. More plant protein is recommended than animal protein and any time animal protein is taken, the fats in these proteins should be removed.
Lifestyle diseases can be avoided by eating a healthy diet since the correct body weight will be maintained. Any thing that is harmful to the body should be avoided, so it is advisable to reduce or completely eliminate smoking and alcohol intake.
The body needs to be adequately hydrated so eight to ten glasses of water are necessary for proper digestion and detoxification. In order to avoid toxin buildup in the body, it is necessary to ensure that they don’t get into the body by taking only vegetables and fruits which are grown organically. Since pesticides are not used to grow these crops, the risk of exposure is lower.
Beetroot juice is considered a good detoxified and recommended for those likely to suffer from hypertension. It is recommended that one takes half a liter of this juice daily to maintain the right blood pressure. Always make sure that you enjoy sunshine and fresh air to reduce depression and stress by merely breathing in fresh air deeply.

Reaching Your Peak Performance In Work And Sport: Entering Into The Flow
How To Make The Most Out Of Your Performance
Ever wondered how successful personalities are able to achieve their maximum potential? The answer likes in having peak performances by being in the flow in work and sports. Yes it is possible, yes I can, and of course, you as well. You can achieve a peak performance when it comes to your work field and when it comes to your sport by being focused. There is a thing in psychology known as flow, which when achieved by the person, allows him or her to be able to use the full potential within him or her thus being confident in performing different tasks.
What Is The Flow?
Flow is defined as a state of mind wherein a person performing a task or activity is brought into a deep state of focus and energy allowing the person to be able to submit him or herself fully to the job or task. This leads to intense involvement of the person to the work thus being able to achieve success upon its completion. This brings a person to a moment of complete motivation. There is a feeling of joy associated with the state of flow making the person really calmer when it comes to performing the task as compared to the non-flow state which can cause one to have panic attacks, stresses and among others.
Flow is not something that you can force yourself to enter. It is something that requires certain condition before you can be able to achieve such state. It can actually be entered while doing any task but you are more likely to enter into it if you are doing the task with all your heart and you have enough awareness of your need for performing the task and being successful in it.
How To Reach The Flow State
In reaching the flow state you need to do your task with a clear direction in mind guided by realistic set of goals. These goals will give you the structure of what path you are to take and what means you are about to use to take that path successfully. These goals serve as bright lights which can make you remain focused all throughout your journey on the road to success.
You must also have enough awareness about the challenges or obstacles that you might face in doing the task together with your capabilities or what you can truly do about them. If you know your skills and capabilities, you will have enough confidence in becoming aware that you can definitely overcome the challenges. Also, your task should be able to give you feedback at hand so that you know how to adjust your performance to it. This feedback will keep your mindfulness of the task which means you could maintain yourself in a state of flow.
Together with the state of flow which is completely focused on the task, you must able to relax your body as well by being able to perform different kinds of relaxation techniques while remaining engaged in the task. Meditation and chill-out music can be very helpful in making your body calm while you stay motivated in finishing your task successful. By being able to perform these, you don’t just get a successful output at the end, you also are rewarding your body for the job well done by means of relaxation, without letting stress overcome your body.

Chiropractic Care – How and Why It Works
The nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue, organ, and system of your body. This fact is the basis of chiropractic care, which focuses on maintaining optimal function of the nervous system.
Everyone recognizes the importance of the brain, yet while the brain is protected by the skull, the nervous system that travels from the brain to the outer reaches of your body is much more vulnerable. The spinal cord is covered by 24 moving vertebrae. When these bones lose their normal motion or position, they can irritate and disrupt the healthy function of the nerves that radiate into every part of your body, undermining the function of the tissues and organs that the nerves control. This is called the Vertebral Subluxation Complex, or Subluxation Syndrome. Chiropractors are trained to locate these areas of spinal joint dysfunction, correct them, and return them to normal function. When spinal function is improved, the nervous system is restored to healthy function.
Common symptoms addressed by chiropractic adjustments:
- hip pain
- joint pain
- knee pain
- back pain
- muscle spasms
- neck pain
- sciatica
- pinched nerves
- poor posture
- shoulder pain
- mild scoliosis
- sports injuries
- TMJ
- whiplash
- pre-natal issues
Surrounding areas of the body are often stressed as soft tissues attempt to compensate for spinal dysfunction, resulting in further complications. Pain relief following a chiropractic adjustment can be immediate, but typically the body requires a series of adjustments to support its return to health. A phenomenon known as “muscle memory” can return soft tissues to patterns of stress. It is helpful to provide therapy in the form of massage, stretching and/or other treatments indicated by the condition.
Instead of covering up symptoms with drugs or resorting to surgery, chiropractic care aims to identify and correct the underlying causes. This conservative approach to healing has the advantage of working with the body’s natural ability to heal itself. In stark contrast, the Journal American Medical Association has identified the traditional medical paradigm as contributing to about 250,000 deaths in the U.S. every year due to unnecessary surgeries, medication errors and complications, and hospital-related infections and errors. (JAMA, Vol. 284, July 26, 2000)*
A Doctor of Chiropractic has received at least four years of post-graduate college education to master the art of chiropractic adjustments. After years of training and experience, chiropractic doctors become experts at using the right amount of force in the right direction to correct subluxations. This may require a quick movement, or in other instances a slow and constant pressure. The chiropractic adjustment is truly an art.
The philosophy of chiropractic care is to focus on reducing or removing any interferences to your own inborn ability to heal.
“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.” — Thomas Edison

Infections You Can Get From Drinking Unclean Water
If you ask normal people if they want to be healthy, they will tell you: “Sure, why not, am I crazy to look for trouble?”. Except that you will find many who know they lead an unhealthy life but nevertheless do nothing to reach or improve their well being.
Irresponsible behavior occurs when people, disregarding common knowledge and warnings, take risks that may destroy their lives. This happens mostly with certain infectious epidemic diseases. However it may happen too in certain situations where pure drinking water is not available and thirst may seem unbearable.
Although knowing in principle that under any circumstances one must not drink unclean and unhealthy water, people may skip precautions and endanger their lives. They may think that at most they will get a mild infection: unfortunately they may be wrong, but too late they will know.
Infections are only the most prominent consequence of drinking unhealthy water. Infections are caused by microbial pathogens, or disease-producing micro-organisms, that are a serious health risks in contaminated water. Pathogens include Viruses, Bacteria, Cysts and Parasites.
Apart from infections, serious and life-threatening diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever, dysentery and hepatitis A can be caught by drinking contaminated water.
Except for the specialists dedicating their whole life to prevention and cure of infections, for the general public too much information does not help and may generate confusion.
One should only know:
- that many are the causes of disease that can be picked up by drinking contaminated water,
- that every effort must be made to avoid drinking from unsafe sources,
- and that one must seek immediate medical intervention to cure infection or other diseases got by drinking contaminated water.
Besides pathogens, also metals, toxins, chemicals, dangerous organic and inorganic substances and undefined materials can pollute water bodies that are not maintained adequately insulated and separated after purification.
Unfortunately there are many places in this world where clean water is a precious commodity. Many more efforts should be done to provide every human being with plenty of safe water, easier said than done.
Occasionally, as we all witnessed recently, when major natural disasters strike, the mighty defenses put up by humankind crumble down, and millions of people may find themselves stranded. They may be lacking temporarily the abundant sources of clean, drinking water to which they are used.
Also in these rare cases one should be most cautious about what one drinks, not to swap thirst with disease.
As drinking is a need for life it cannot be canceled at will. If the main sources of clean water are unavailable one must look for alternatives. Although children may shun from unknown or disliked drinks, they must be convinced with soothing patience to drink, to avoid dehydration and worse consequences.
What should be drunk at home? A thriving beverage industry would like to convince everyone that their products are tasty, healthy and thirst-quenching. To counter the objections of those opposing the diffusion of sweetened drinks, the companies launched the diet version of their beverages.
Another blooming industry sells bottled drinking water, whose quality is dismissed by opponents as being indistinguishable at best from good tap water as supplied by most municipal water companies.
Another industry, with different interests, promotes filters and purifiers of various kinds, to offer water taste improvement of tap water, by absorbing chlorine excess.
Who is right? Anyone has the right to foster his/her own opinions, but a little search of the subject, with the help of the authorities in charge of public health, might bring some light in the controversy, fed mostly by huge financial interests.
The title of this article remains valid, whatever you decide to drink.

After researching the subject of drinking water quality and of home water filters and purifiers, he set up a website where he proposes the results of his inquiry for all to consider, to reach independently their conclusions.

Sunlight: A D-Lightful Vitamin For Your Heart
“We estimate that vitamin D deficiency is the most common medical condition in the world.” Dr. Michael F. Holick, Vitamin D expert.
“Vitamin D deficiency is an unrecognized, emerging cardiovascular risk factor, which should be screened for and treated. Vitamin D is easy to assess, and supplementation is simple, safe, and inexpensive.” James H. O’Keefe MD, Director of Preventive Cardiology, Mid America Heart Institute, Kansas City, Missouri.
“Humans make thousands of units of vitamin D within minutes of whole body exposure to sunlight.” Dr. John Cannell, Executive Director, Vitamin D Council.
Vitamin D deficiency is now recognized as a pandemic. It is estimated to affect over one billion people worldwide. It is prevalent in virtually every segment of the US population, including children and adults.
Vitamin D undergoes two hydroxylations in the body for activation. The metabolites are calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3) and calcidiol (25-hydroxyvitamin D3). Calcitriol is the active form of vitamin D in the body.
Although traditionally associated with defects of bone and calcium metabolism, it has now become recognized as an important vitamin for overall good health. Besides neonatal tetany, rickets, osteopmalacia and osteoporosis, its deficiency has recently been linked to several other diseases, including autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, colorectal cancer, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Adequate vitamin d levels may also play a role in cancer prevention. Its deficiency may increase the risk of both type I and type II diabetes, some infectious diseases such as active tuberculosis and periodontal disease. Deficiency is associated with an increase in overall general mortality.
Adequate levels of Vitamin D are also necessary for optimal cardiovascular health. Several studies have found that that vitamin D deficiency is associated with high blood pressure and other cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, heart failure, cardiac rhythm irregularities, coronary artery disease and heart attacks. It deficiency has also been linked to several cardiovascular risk factors, including obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, high cholesterol, peripheral arterial disease, and kidney diseases. Its deficiency has also been linked to excess cardiovascular mortality. Data also indicates that raising vitamin d levels to normal can substantially reduce the elevated cardiovascular risk.
The major source of vitamin D for humans is from cutaneous synthesis upon exposure to sunlight. It is estimated that approximately 30 minutes of direct skin exposure of the arms and face to sunlight can provide the daily vitamin D needs of the body (400 IU). Dietary sources of Vitamin D, although minor, can still be an important source of vitamin D in humans. Ordinary dietary sources usually provide (100 IU of vitamin D per day, and fortified foods may provide up to 200 to 400 IU of vitamin D daily. Fatty fish, such as salmon, mackerel, herring and sardines are the richest natural sources of vitamin D and an important way to maintain optimal levels. Although organ meats, such as liver, have a healthy vitamin d content, their intake is restricted because of the high cholesterol content. Edible mushrooms and eggs from hens that have been fed vitamin D are also a good food source of vitamin D. Fortified foods are an important source of vitamin d and can help reduce hypovitaminosis. Western societies often fortify foods such as fruit juices, grains, milk, cereal and oils with calcium and vitamin D. Vegetables are not a good source for vitamin D.
Vitamin D toxicity is extremely rare. Prolonged massive doses may result in high calcium levels. This is associated with loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, constipation and generalized weakness. Toxicity may also cause confusion and irregular heart beats.
You should ask your physician to check your vitamin D levels during your routine physical. If you are deficient in vitamin D, oral supplementation will be required. For most patients with cardiovascular disease, a higher dose of about 1000 IU to 2000 IU is needed. If your levels are extremely low, few doses of 50,000 IU may be required initially. Vitamin D is fat soluble and should be taken with a snack or meal containing fat. And of course, do not forget the sun.
“Sunlight is more powerful than any drug; it is safe, effective, and available free of charge. If it could be patented, it would be hyped as the greatest medical breakthrough in history. It’s that good.” Mike Adams. Natural health researcher and author.
Dr. Shashi K. Agarwal is a Board Certified Internist and Cardiologist with a private practice in New York City and New Jersey. He is also a diplomat of the American Board of Holistic Medicine and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
